The MCan foundation was founded by designer Maheka Mirpuri to support the Tata memorial hospital in order to provide financial assistance to the underprivileged in the battle against cancer in general, head and neck cancer. These cancers (head and neck) are the most frequent in the country, accounting for 33% of all cancers and having the highest occurrence among poor patients. The Tata memorial hospital, India's foremost cancer treatment, teaching, and research Centre, raises cash for the less fortunate who are facing and undergoing cancer treatment there. TMH is one of the world's largest cancer Centres registering about 43,000 new patients every year, with 60% of those in the general category receiving free or heavily subsidized treatment.
